A MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!
As the elementary school counselor at Key Biscayne K-8 Center, I wish to greet you and let you know that I am delighted to be working with your children this school year.
The Comprehensive School Counseling Program is an integral part of the students’ curriculum. As part of the activities of the program, during my visits to classes, children will participate in classroom guidance activities geared to help them enhance their learning and study skills, self-esteem, and their ability to get along with others, solve problems, make decisions, and establish goals. In addition, I will be working with some students in small groups and/or individually, offering support or helping out those who might be experiencing emotional, behavioral or learning difficulties.
Although counseling services are part of the regular school program, due to a particular reason or special situation, a parent might not feel comfortable with the counselor working with his/her child or children in a small group situation or individually. In that case, the parent should write a letter stating his/her request and send it to school to the attention of the principal, Mrs. Silvia Tarafa. If the request is considered to be in the best interest of the child and is approved by the principal, the parent letter along with the principal’s approval statement will be placed in the child’s cumulative folder, and will remain in effect for the current school year.

¡Bienvenidos al nuevo año escolar 2017-2018!
Soy la Consejera Escolar de la escuela primaria en Key Biscayne K-8 Center y estoy encantada de trabajar con sus niños este año escolar .
El Programa de Consejería y Asesoramiento Escolar es parte integral del currículo de sus hijos. Como parte de las actividades del programa, durante mis visitas a las clases a través del año, los estudiantes participarán en lecciones dirigidas a mejorar sus habilidades para aprender, hábitos de estudio, su autoestima y a adquirir destrezas que los ayuden en la toma de decisiones, el establecimiento de metas y la solución de conflictos. Además, durante el año escolar, yo trabajaré con grupos pequeños de estudiantes, o individualmente, según sea necesario, prestando ayuda a aquellos niños que presenten dificultades académicas, de ajuste social, personal, o de comportamiento.
Los servicios de orientación y consejería se ofrecen regularmente como parte del programa escolar, pero si por alguna razón en particular o una situación especial, algún padre no desea que su hijo/a trabaje con la consejera en grupos pequeños o individualmente, debe escribir una carta con ese pedido a la atención de la directora, Sra. Silvia Tarafa. Si el pedido está considerado para beneficio del niño y es aprobado por la directora, ésta carta será archivada en el expediente acumulativo del estudiante y el pedido estará en vigencia éste año escolar.
Yo también estoy disponible para consultas con los padres. Ustedes pueden recibir orientación en cuanto al mantenimiento de unprograma de disciplina en la casa, o comprender mejor las necesidades de sus hijos.
